Pingyao has special Spring Festival gifts for locals

People in the village of Hengpo, Pingyao county, Shanxi province have gotten two gifts from their government as the Spring Festival approaches -- dividends from the local Fengwei Farmer Organization and festival couplets from the the county's calligrapher association.

The organization, which was founded in 2009, had a total income of 1 million yuan ($160,000), last year, and its achievements have been recognized and honored by the central government, and the village head, Guo Xingfeng, got an outstanding rural economic leader title from China's Agriculture Ministry. So, the organization has brought a lot of benefits to the locals in a short period of time and each farmer is sharing in its revenues.

Guo said that, for the coming year, they will focus on ecological and rural tourism development and added that he was delighted with the county's new policy from the recently concluded economic conference, because it will help things advance.

Then, of course, there are the cultural items, the work of 15 calligraphers from the county who paid a visit to the village and produced 900 spring couplets with their brushes to vive to each household to make the holiday more festive.
