Pingyao gets better rail service for Spring Festival

The month-long Spring Festival travel rush began in early February and the Pingyao Railway Station reports this year's passengers as mainly consisting of college students coming back home, people working here returning home, and tourists, with the total passenger volume expected to be around 95,000.

To guarantee passenger safety and a smooth ride, the station has done as much as it can for the rush period, adding ticket vendors in the station, and barrier belts to get passengers through the different areas in an orderly fashion. The waiting rooms have also been separated for the different trains, and there are security checks at regular intervals.

But, what is better is that the station has added more services and convenience for people with special needs, such as the elderly, children, and pregnant women, and has special eye glasses and health care tools for the elderly, oxygen bottles, and toys and reading materials for the kids in the waiting room, to distract them during their trip.

The station has also increased six more lines each day to make sure that as many passengers as possible get to their destination. Still, the stationmaster, Wang Hailing, reminds passengers that it is better to get to the station well ahead of schedule during the rush period, to avoid delays.
