"Angel Project" gives sick children some much-needed love, care, and attention

When Chinese Red Cross representatives paid a return visit to a sick child in Pingyao county, Shanxi province, on Jan 20, to check on the child's progress they were just continuing a project that has led to the construction of rural hospitals and health stations, the training of rural doctors, and the setting up of relief systems for impoverished farmers and children.

This "Red Cross Angel Project" is a key welfare program of the Chinese Red Cross Foundation started and based on actual local conditions, for example the branch in the city of Jinzhong, Pingya, where the main goal is child health care for major illnesses, and which has assisted nearly a hundred children, since its start back in 2005.

Zhang Xinxin, project supervisor, explains, "We hope to engage more people in the project through this activity. If the masses pay more attention to our project, there can be more volunteer activities held so even more children will have a chance to get financial and medical aid and live a better life."

Red Cross staff members say that the parents of sick children can either check the Chinese Red Cross website or go to the local Red Cross office to ask for help.
