Pingyao county, Shanxi province, has offered many live performances to show how life was in the old days to give tourists a better taste of county traditions. There are plays, for example, showing how a county magistrate might deal with lawsuits between locals people, or how Shanxi merchants live, all of them from the Ming (1368-1644) or Qing (1636-1912) Dynasty, with appropriate costumes for the time. These shows give visitors a closer experience with old Shanxi.
