Shanxi honors Pingyao's garden qualities

Shanxi province chose 13 cities and regions as "garden" sites, on Jan 8, with Pingyao joining the selected group, according to the county park bureau, and it definitely deserves the ranking for many reasons.

In recent years, it has done its best to improve its quality of the county and image to live up to its role as a World Cultural Heritage site and has projects to show its culture and has improved its landscape, including Helanxian Bridge, Hualin Park, the Huiji Wetland Reserve, Yingxun Park, and the Old Town Park. It also replanted green belts along its main roads and around scenic spots, adding 500,000 square meters of green, just last year.

In addition to the greening, the county did a basic infrastructure upgrade for its transportation network, sewage treatment, heating system, drinking water, river conservation, relic preservation, and other moves to improve its appearance. Its work plan for the new year calls for better city functions.
