Pingyao's becoming China's most valuable cultural destination

Xinhua News reports that, when this year's list of China's cultural destinations that are most worth visiting was published, on Dec 21 Pingyao county, in Shanxi province, joined the list, along with 35 other tourist sites and 14 tourist cities.

The county, which is also a World Cultural Heritage site, had to go through several rounds of competition to earn the ranking, but it did it, thanks to its culture and history, its popularity with global visitors, and its role in domestic tourism.

The list is compiled by the China Cultural Relics Protection Foundation, China Tourism News, and Xinhua News Agency, which are planning a publicity and promotion for the chosen sites in domestic and overseas markets, this coming January.
