Improved standard of living in rural Pingyao

Life and the environment are priorities for the Pingyao county government, in Shanxi province, which has spent 630 million yuan ($1 million) on these, registering progress in the following: seven highways improved, for a total of 72 kilometers; soil erosion halted on 6.7 million square meters; greening completed on 17 million sq m; 5 million yuan in funds raised to improve elementary schools and kindergartens; an addition of nine clinics at national standards; at least 2,700 households getting digital TV thanks to a government project; and 13 homes for the elderly built.

In addition, the county is spending on improving households for example, allocating 3.5 million yuan for rebuilding aging houses for 250 impoverished families, and 11 million for new refuse processing plants. There are also 68 other engineering projects for improvement living, costing 110 million yuan.
