Shanxi wants to make science more popular among teenagers

Pingyao county, Shanxi province, held a teenage science education conference at a local school, on Oct 15, pulling in more than 140 people, including the county Party committee, members of the science and technology association, federation of trade unions and education bureau, as well as local school officials, who visited a science festival with a "living in a scientific way" "innovation" theme at the Shiyan Primary School, where they shared their enthusiasm and joy with the pupils and watched an exhibition of their scientific works and their innovative ideas and extraordinary skills.

The meeting was also the occasion for awarding the winners of the province's 29th Shanxi teenager scientific and technical innovation contest, its 14th teenage machine competition, and 10th Shanxi Soong Ching-ling invention awards for teenagers. There were also awards for 16 science and technology teachers and the participants exchanged their ideas on science and technology education.

Yang Xiaolong, a member of the county standing committee, said he hopes that the educators can engage in the popularization of science and technology at school and out in society, while emphasizing the need to apply scientific knowledge to daily life, and acquire knowledge even outside class.
