Handicraft fair in Pingyao

When Pingyao county, Shanxi province held a creative arts fair during National Day holiday, Oct 1 – 7, it brought some artistic vision and new blood to local arts, in the Zhenjun Mansion, a local heritage site, by calling on young artists with creative minds from all over the country to come up with some tourist products for the historic county as part of key cultural projects.

The county administrators who organized the fair, were looking for a way to make up for the lack of designers in the world heritage site and to increase exchanges with craftspeople and artists elsewhere. So there were original ceramics, fabrics, decorative items, portraits, and leather goods on display, with 40 out of 100 teams of artists selected, 14 of them local. There are also follow-up activities to be held to bring more creative designs for Pingyao souvenirs.
Organizers of the event were the Pingyao Cultural Innovation Association, Cuipuyuan Arts Co, Pingyao Broadcasting and TV, and the county's Literature and Arts Confederation, with sponsorship from the Jinshenglu Food Co.
