Pingyao sees tourism peak on National Day

The county of Pingyao, Shanxi province witnessed another tourism peak during the National Day holiday, from Oct 1 to 7, with about 550,000 tourists, up 3.7 percent from last year and earnings from ticket sales of 13.7 million yuan ($2.3 million).

The Datong-Xi'an High-speed Railway has contributed to the growth of Pingyao, which has become a major choice for tourists from other parts of China, because of the ease of getting to the county.

There were added shows of the popular play, Ancient Pingyao Once More, during this year's holiday period, and tickets sold very quickly. The play was put on 30 times in the seven–day period, bringing in more than 4 million yuan.

A cultural creativity fair was another county highlight, with many handicraft artists from all over the country providing products for the tourists.

Also, Beautiful Shanxi Culture Park opened on Oct 1, with many exhibitions of Shanxi culture from as many angles as possible, letting the visitors enjoy Shanxi culture in all ways.
