Pingyao clamping down on tourism market

Pingyao county, a World Cultural Heritage site in Shanxi province, recently instituted new price controls for tourism as its pricing bureau increases its watch over hotels, restaurants, shops and anyone else involved in tourism services to impose some order on the market, improve the tourisconsumption environment, and push integrity among local merchants.

If this move is effective it is expected to give the county a good reputation among world travelers, which is important as its International Photography Festival is attracting larger numbers of tourists. The new policy says that all food products need to be tagged and that all tourism service charges have to be posted or there will be serious penalties.
