Bullet train D2011 launched its operation from the South Station of Taiyuan (capital of Shanxi province) to North Station of Xi'an (capital of Shaanxi province) on July 1. This is the first high-speed railway between Taiyuan and Xi'an, cutting travel time between the two cities from 10 to 3 hours.

The line is part of the Da Xi High-Speed Project, a key part of China's long-term plan for railway networks. Starting at Datong in Shanxi, the line runs through the middle of the province and crosses the Yellow River at Yongji. It then goes into Shaanxi from Lintong. It runs a total of 859 km, stops at 29 stations and can travel at up to 250 km per hour.

The Da Xi High-speed Project is a major part of China's strategy to develop its west. And by improving its western railway network—not to mention linking Taiyuan and Xi'an with Beijing, Tianjin and other regions of China—the region is actively promoting its rapid development.
