Hongshan Care House for the aged, part of a people-oriented municipal project that started last year, is now home to 60 senior citizens in Pingyao, Shanxi province.

The care house uses a meticulously planned management structure in order to ensure a high quality of service. When caring for the elderly, the house staff takes several factors into consideration: each person’s daily habits, their willingness to be enrolled in the home and the Five Guarantees—the Chinese government's guarantee of food, clothing, housing, medical care, and funeral rites for senior citizens. Prospective residents must also meet certain prerequisites due to the care house's limited space.
In order to improve the care house's service, a team of government officials recently visited. Among them were Cao Zhisheng, county chief; Yang Dengwen, director of the National People's Congress in the county; ZhangWenyuan, the chirman of the county committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Niu Qihu, vice county chief; and a number of staff.
The manager of the care house introduced the house's staff, living spaces, canteen, medical care facilities and leisure facilities to Cao and his administration.

Cao said that future services in the care house should be creative, diverse and tailored to each resident’s needs, but also that personal safety and hygiene are his top priorities. Ultimately, his goal is to improve the quality of life for elders in Pingyao.
