Armory museum in Pingyao named defense education base

The Shanxi provincial government named the Wentaofang Ancient Armory Museum in Pingyao a National Defense Education Base on Jun 24.

Various ancient weapons from primitive society to the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression are exhibited at the museum to display the history of weapons in China and the development of defense activity in ancient and modern China.

The museum also holds exhibitions on defense for students from middle and primary schools and soldiers.

"With a strong sense of national and historical responsibility, the armory museum will promote public education on the weapons culture of ancient China and the national defense," said Liu Wentao, curator of the Wentaofang Ancient Armory Museum.

Established in September 2012, it opened for free and offers guide services. Many exhibitions in different themes have been held to attract tourists from home and abroad.

The armory museum is the only province-level national defense education base in Pingyao, and is located in the ancient city and covers an area of more than 2,000 square meters.
