Pingyao promotes polished lacquer ware

The Polished Lacquerware Innovation Park in Pingyao is under construction. The project has moved rapidly to build a production line and studio for lacquer ware, and a lacquer tree planting base will be built.

Invested by Pingyao Coal Chemical Group Co., Ltd, the Polished Lacquerware Innovation Park will be conducive to the production of polished lacquer ware, thus accelerating the development of a multi-function industrial park for lacquer ware. With the social, economic and even cultural benefits, the project can also facilitate the development of tourism in Pingyao.

The history of polished Pingyao lacquer ware can date back to the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty (713-741). Polished lacquer ware is produced by hand through a complex process involving five procedures-----preparing the wood, adding an ash base, then the lacquering, painting, and inlay work. With its graceful appearance, Pingyao’s products are heat- and moisture-resistant and durable, and take various forms, such as boxes, tableware and screens.
