Experts and scholars from literature and art, TV and film circles met to discuss the script of Pingyao Family in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, on Friday.
At the meeting, Zhao Aibin, the author of Pingyao Family, recalled that he began to write this play in 2012, and he revised the script six times in order to better portray Shanxi culture and Shanxi people’s character.
The play is about how four generations of the Xu family were devoted to developing and protecting refined Chinese lacquer, a lacquer that originated in Shanxi 1,200 years ago. The story spans from the Anti-Japanese War (1937-1945) to the period of reform and opening up, presenting the development of Shanxi and China.
The play portrays Shanxi people’s bravery, generosity and intelligence through the ups and downs of the Xu family, said Lu Ruoyan, a TV critic. He Qun, the director of the play, also gave an analysis of the characters and provided suggestions to improve the story.
The play is co-created by the Shanxi Propaganda Department, China Central Television (CCTV) and other departments, and it will be shot in September and broadcast on CCTV next year.
