Shanxi sees tourism boom during Dragon Boat Festival

Tourists poured into Pingyao Ancient City, Shanxi province, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from May 31 to June 2.

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, over 7.2 million tourists visited Shanxi, a year-on-year growth of 23.6 percent, resulting in 3.36 billion yuan in income, according to Shanxi's Provincial Tourism Administration.

The three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday coincided with Children's Day, making family tours the hottest choice for parents and children and a major selling point at almost all the scenic spots in Shanxi.

Family activities were held at Wujin Mountain scenic area in Yuci county, Shanxi province, with parents and children playing various games such as bowling hoops, throwing bean bags, playing with clay, cockfighting and hopscotch.

In Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, a special family tour was organized at Fenhe River No 2 Reservoir scenic area, where parents could go yachting and rafting with their children while enjoying the splendid view of the Fenhe Erku Dam.

Parent-and-child games, including hiking, swimming and exploration, also became a new highlight at Manghe Nature Reserves in Jincheng City, Shanxi province.
