Tourism surge during Tomb Sweeping Day in Pingyao

According to the Pingyao county tourism bureau, during the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday, from April 5 to 7, the Ancient City of Pingyao, Shanxi province, received a total of some 78,800 tourists from home and abroad, a year-on-year increase of 30.90 percent.

The comfortable weather across Pingyao during the 3-day holiday makes this the best time for traveling. In addition, the holiday toll-free policy on express ways also helped increase the number of self-drive trips and one-day tours.

Hotels and inns in Pingyao achieved an 85 percent occupancy rate, and no safety incidents occurred, while related officials including police, fireman, traffic police and so on were on duty 24-hours, all of which maintained safety during the holiday in Pingyao.

The large-scale indoor drama, "A Glance at Pingyao", was also quite popular among the tourists. Since first staged in Pingyao in 2013, it has attracted the attention of tourists from home and abroad, to express the Shanxi business spirit. According to the statistics, 'A Glance at Pingyao' was staged 7 times in total with 100% attendance on April 5 and 6, drawing audiences that totaled 6,289 excited viewers. The performance highlights Pingyao's time-honored history and culture as well as Chinese traditions.
