Tourism blossoming early during Old Pingyao's Spring Festival

During this year's golden week, or Spring Festival, Jan 31 - Feb 6, the old town of Pingyao, Shanxi province, reaped a great bountiful harvest -- 187,800 tourists -- a year-on-year growth of 35.4 percent. During the 7-day holiday, the town's tourism income hit 33.16 million yuan, for an increase of 31.17 percent.

To drive the festivities there were lots of cultural activities, such as the main event, "Pingyao 2014 Chinese New Year", which attracted many tourists and locals who came to snap photos, and the "A Glance at Pingyao" performance that was staged 15 times, drawing audiences that totaled 13,817 excited viewers.
