Pingyao aims to be a national 5A-level tourist attraction

The Modern Engineering Technology College of Pingyao county, Shanxi province, held a meeting, on Dec 7, to discuss ways to develop Pingyao into a national AAAAA-level scenic spot, as a Jin merchant tourism center and a tourists center in the future.

The meeting attracted members of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)'s Geography and Natural Resource Research Institute, the China National Tourist Attractions Quality Evaluation Committee’s Tian Dajiang, government departments, enterprises, and individuals in the tourism business, with the deputy director of the old town’s management committee, Li Hongzheng, on hand to act as host.

Tian explained the criteria for AAAAA-level tourist sites and the assessment process and suggested that the focus be on transportation, sanitation, shopping, resources, and environment protection to improve services and quality and to show that Pingyao deserves the rating, with everyone doing their part to contribute to the cause.
