The county of Pingyao, Shanxi province, announced that it will join a River Cam Program of King's College, Cambridge University, on Nov 21, and establish a three-year partnership for preserving cultural heritages and promoting cultural studies.

The two parties expect to make Pingyao an important culture and creativity base to attract scholars, architects, and artists worldwide to display their works and do research, and build a World Cultural Heritage Research Center, Online Museum, International Artists Home, and International Art and Creation Camp and to make Pingyao a Jin merchant culture base.

The River Cam group has plenty of human resources, with experienced experts, artists, scholars, and critics to contribute to the projects. And, Pingyao’s consultation office will provide information on protecting classical architecture and cultural heritage and developing tourism.

The River Cam program, which started in 1983, involves anthropology, creativity, and cultural communications to preserve a disappearing world, including Asian archives and museum items. Group members have collected records of architecture, art, customs, music, dance, dramas, rituals and traditional production modes of Southeast Asia.
