County political advisors inspect environmental protection work

Top political advisors inspected the environmental protection work in Pingyao county, North China’s Shanxi province, on Wednesday.

The inspection team, headed by Zhang Wenyuan, the chairman of the county committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, paid special visits to the coal-to-gas projects in the county hospital and researched the operation of the new gas facilities.

Visiting officials also toured the workshops of some casting, rubber production, papermaking, glassware and machinery factories to collect first-hand information about the upgraded environmental protection facilities before inspecting pollution treatment efforts in rural areas and visiting waste water treatment projects.

Zhang urged relevant government agencies and companies to uphold high social-responsibility standards and be innovative in environmental protection and pollution treatment efforts so as to raise awareness and increase public participation. The focus should be put on phasing out coal burning boilers, bio-safety disposal of household garbage, and prevention and treatment of water pollution.

In order to become a model county in Shanxi for environmental protection, the Pingyao government has launched special campaigns to treat pollution in rural areas, reduce emissions, promote ecological protection projects, improve the water environment and urge rubber companies to reduce pollution in the first half of 2013.
