Pingyao is being asked to develop its culture business

The government of Pingyao county, near the city of Jinzhong, Shanxi province is expected to fork out more money for the culture industry of this time-honored tourist site.

Government leaders think it is important for Pingyao to focus on its culture and to increase government input to remove the bottleneck for further development and contribute more to the province, according to Zheng Qiwen, the vice-chairman of the Jinzhong Party committee, who visited Pingyao recently.

Pingyao is trying to turn itself into a major site with typical Shanxi characteristics, based on a merchant tradition, and has come up with a new development path with cultural events, brands, and businesses.
