Pingyao launches week-long campaign to promote food safety

The local government launched a week-long campaign to call for joint efforts from all social circles to promote food safety on Monday in Pingyao county, North China’s Shanxi province.
Relevant government departments and entities are required to become more aware of food safety problems, organize more promotion activities and fulfill their responsibilities so as to safeguard food safety in an effective way, said Wang Dongguang, deputy head of Pingyao county, at the launching ceremony.
Fourteen government agencies -- including public health, agriculture, industry and commerce, quality inspection, and the food and drug administration -- put up food safety knowledge boards along county streets, sent out publicity materials and set up complaint desks on Monday in a bid to raise the public’s awareness of food safety.
In order to mobilize more social resources, the campaign will also include food safety training for food production companies and their employees to make them aware of their responsibilities and encourage them to get more involved in efforts to ensure food safety.
