Pingyao receives more visitors during holiday
Updated:2013-06-18 14:01More tourists visited the county of Pingyao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in North China’s Shanxi province, during the recent three-day Dragon Boat Festival from June 10 to 12.
A total of 95,800 tourists came to the old city of Pingyao, a year-on-year increase of 3.01 percent. However, ticket sales revenue dropped by 18.3 percent year-on-year to 2.59 million yuan ($421,096) due to the provincial government’s preferential policies for tickets to famous scenic sites.
The rise in the number of tourists was bolstered by the live-action show “Another Glance at Pingyao”, which tells the legendary story of a local bodyguard company, according to Hou Shijun, deputy director of the local tourism bureau.
“More than 5,000 people watched the six shows of “Another Glance at Pingyao” during the holiday, driving up the number of overnight tourists and their spending,” said Hou. “Tourism consumption is branching into other areas (besides tickets to scenic spots).”
