Pingyao live-action show sells out during Dragon Boat Festival
Updated:2013-06-18 14:02The live-action performance “Another Glance at Pingyao” directed by Wang Chaoge was well-received among tourists during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 10 to 12 in Pingyao county, North China’s Shanxi province.
All tickets were sold out during the three-day holiday thanks to ticket discounts. Local residents could get a ticket for 50 yuan ($8.15) by presenting their ID cards, and college students could buy tickets for 168 yuan by showing their student ID cards. The original price of the ticket was 298 yuan.
Tourists who watched the show spoke highly of the set design and actors. The show is innovative and is rarely performed in other places. The audience was deeply impressed by the local culture and the local people of Pingyao, according to tourists.
“Another Glance at Pingyao” tells a story at the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The plot centers on Pingyao exchange shop owner Zhao Yishuo, who spent all of his money to save the son of his subordinate in Russia. Zhao and 232 armed escorts die seven years later, but the son returns to carry on the family's bloodline. Ultimately, the show is about the kindness and loyalty of Pingyao's people.
