Food safety inspection underway in Pingyao

Another round of food safety inspections is underway in Pingyao, implemented by the Pingyao administrative bureau of industry and commerce. The inspections seek to prevent any foodborne illnesses in summer.

The best-selling summer foods, including beverages, milk, cake, meat, and wine are the main focuses of this round of inspection. Any grocery stores or supermarkets selling fake, expired or bad food will be punished.

Besides the food inspection, officials also carried out a myriad of publicity activities, such as disseminating and explaining food safety knowledge to residents in markets, neighborhoods, campuses and other places. In this way, the local authorities hope to enhance consumer self-protection awareness.

Administrative personnel reminded consumers to pay more attention to the production date, shelf life and quality standard (QS) of different foods. Customers should pay more attention to storage and whether or not the foods need to be kept in cold, well ventilated, and clean dark storage areas.
