Pingyao Shehuo Festival

Pingyao is a northern town in China where traditions of Spring Festival still remain relatively intact. Tourists can get an authentic taste of Chinese New Year through various traditional folk art performances (shehuo) like decorated archways and stages, lion dances, bola performances, walking on stilts and yangko folk dances. Visitors can enjoy these performances from the first day of the Lunar New Year to the 15th day (Lantern Festival).
Tips
Besides Spring Festival, tourists nowadays can also watch shehuo and similar activities during other traditional festivals like Mid-Autumn Festival and Dragon Boat Festival. Wearing traditional clothes, local performers will parade down the street while performing.
