How to get to Pingyao

Pingyao is not so far from Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, and people usually take a plane, train, or bus for most of the journey, with rail being the most popular. Of course, some drive there.

There are many other options available in Pingyao itself, such as taxis, public bus, electric cars, motorcycles, and bicycles.

By air

If you choose to go by air, when you arrive at Taiyuan’s Wusu Airport, you can get the airport bus to the downtown where there are coaches to Pingyao county. The ride takes around two hours to Pingyao.

By train

There is a high-speed railway from Beijing to Taiyuan that went into service in Apri, 2009, with the whole journey taking about three hours. Then you can get a coach to Pingyao, in Taiyuan.

By coach

 

The ride from Taiyuan to Pingyao takes about two hours and costs 25 yuan. You can take Bus 611 (1 yuan) to the Taiyuan train station. There is an inter-city bus station 300 meters from the train station.
