The Information Office of Shanxi Provincial Government held a press conference on Sept 20, explaining recently released circulars supporting Taiyuan and Datong in leading and driving the high-quality development of Shanxi province.

The circulars clearly define the provincial capital Taiyuan's strategic positioning as an important hub for national advanced manufacturing, origin for the national energy technology revolution, significant cultural and tourist destination, inland hub for opening up to the outside world, regional cluster for modern services, and pioneer in improving people's livelihood and wellbeing. 

Taiyuan is required to take the lead in building a central city cluster in the province, and developing a modern industrial system, high-level innovation system, and livable and business-friendly cities. 

According to the circulars, Datong in northernmost Shanxi – which borders the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, is recognized as a provincial transfer hub for Beijing's industries and technological achievements, and a key supplier of premium agricultural products for Beijing. 

The city is also rated as a national comprehensive transportation hub, green energy supplier, data and computing service provider, preferred destination for cultural and wellness tourism, source of quality labor, as well as ecological conservation area for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. 

The circulars emphasize that Datong should leverage its advantages in advanced manufacturing, technology transfer, talent introduction and utilization, information and data services, tourism and leisure consumption, logistics infrastructure, and as a high-standard market system.
