The cities of Datong and Taiyuan in Shanxi province have both secured spots on the "2026 TAOTIE Top 100 Charming Cultural and Tourism Cities of China" list, ranking 51st and 91st, respectively. The announcement was made at the second AT ASIA Cultural Tourism Awards and CC ASIA City Awards 2026 in Macao.

The list was compiled by the TAOTIE THINK TANK using a comprehensive evaluation system that includes big data collection, tourist surveys, in-depth industry interviews, and expert reviews. This multifaceted approach objectively assesses the cultural and tourism competitiveness of cities across China.

Datong earned its place on the list through its rich historical and cultural heritage and its innovative approach to cultural tourism development. Moving beyond the traditional attraction-based travel model, Datong has strengthened its integrated "culture and tourism+" industrial ecosystem and adopted digital, youth-oriented promotional strategies, breathing new life into this ancient city.

Taiyuan has been working to develop a concert-driven economy, successfully branding itself as the "City of Music Fans". The city is also promoting a fusion model of "performing arts, micro-short dramas, and cultural tourism". By connecting city landmarks, historical and cultural resources, and intangible heritage cuisine, Taiyuan continues to enhance its cultural tourism profile.
