Shanxi supports construction of national regional medical centers

North China's Shanxi province will make full use of internet-based medicine and healthcare, artificial intelligence and big data technologies to build national regional medical centers and better meet the medical needs of locals. 

According to the plan recently issued by the General Office of the Shanxi Provincial Government, the province will implement 36 measures to support the construction of national regional medical centers.

Shanxi plans to build high-level clinical diagnosis and treatment centers, talent training bases and scientific research innovation and transformation platforms, cultivate characteristic medical specialties with obvious advantages and cross-regional high-level services, and form a group of specialty alliances with national regional medical centers as the core.

Shanxi Bethune Hospital, for example, will cooperate with Tongji Hospital affiliated with Tongji Medical College of HUST to build a national regional medical center.

By 2024, the hospital aims to reach 1.5-2 million in the volume of annual outpatient services, have two to four provincial key laboratories and three provincial clinical medical research centers, and rank among China's top 100 in the national performance appraisal of Grade-3 public hospitals. Its scientific research project funding for healthcare technicians is expected to reach 2.5 million yuan ($363,425.91) per 100 people. 

Shanxi Cancer Hospital will cooperate with Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences to build a national regional medical center.

By 2026, it aims to realize 650,000-700,000 in the volume of annual outpatient services, have two to four provincial key laboratories, add three-five national key clinical specialties, break into the top eight oncology hospitals in the national performance appraisal of Grade-3 public hospitals, and increase scientific research project funding for healthcare technicians to 3 million yuan per 100 people.
