Quinoa was originally imported into China from South America, and Shanxi started farming it about a decade ago. As a high-altitude county, Jingle has suitable natural conditions.

The county is now a nationally renowned production base for the crop, which is known for its rich nutrition. Its stable output, high quality and competitive prices have made it a major source of revenue for local farmers.

In 2022, more than 3,333 hectares of land in Jingle have been planted in quinoa. Total grain yield is expected to reach 7,500 metric tons with a value of over 60 million yuan ($8.56 million).
