Science and technology week kicks off in Shanxi

The 2022 Shanxi Science and Technology Week kicked off in North China's Shanxi province on May 21.

During the week, science and technology departments at all levels in the province will go all out to promote science to the public through online and offline events.

In recent years, Shanxi has been continuing to improve its scientific and technological innovation capabilities.

The province has established seven national key laboratories, one Belt and Road joint lab, 116 provincial key labs, 33 provincial technology innovation centers, 13 provincial-level new R&D institutions, and 14 provincial-school cooperative scientific research platforms.

It has also developed 65 national-level incubators and maker spaces, 282 provincial-level incubators and maker spaces, 6,519 national technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as recognized 3,553 high-tech enterprises. 

Shanxi has also increased efforts to promote science by rating popular science bases and building public popular science service platforms. There are nine national-level popular science education bases and more than 500 popular science bases in the province.

As much as 9.32 percent of residents of the province have had a basic understanding of necessary scientific and technical knowledge, mastered basic scientific methods, adopted scientific thinking, advocated scientific spirit, and have had certain ability to apply science to deal with practical problems and participate in public affairs.
