Residents in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province, feasted their eyes on the natural and cultural landscapes of North China's Shanxi province at a cultural and tourism promotion event in the city on April 13.

The promotional activity was held by the Shanxi Department of Culture and Tourism and was intended to further stimulate the vitality of Shanxi's cultural and tourism market and expand the tourism source market in the Yangtze River Delta region, with Nanjing, Hangzhou and Shanghai as hubs. The event also promoted Shanxi's cultural and tourism brands and enhanced the popularity and reputation of Shanxi's tourism resources.

Unlike previous tourism promotions held in hotels, the event was staged at Nanjing's Laomendong Historic Block, which features an open space and dense crowds, maximizing opportunities to disseminate information and promote Shanxi's tourism attractions.

Promoters introduced the natural scenery, history, culture and arts of Shanxi at the event, and highlighted the cultural tourism resources and products of Changzhi, Taiyuan, Datong, Linfen, Jincheng and Yuncheng cities.

Jiangsu-based travel agencies that specialize in the Shanxi market set up special registration sites at the event, offering discounts to Jiangsu residents who register to travel in Shanxi.

The event's atmosphere was brought to a climax by song, dance and crosstalk performances, intangible cultural heritage displays and immersive scenic area experiences, among other activities.

The promotion offered Nanjing residents a dose of cultural and tourism excellence and informed them of preferential tourism policies.

In 2021, 51 State-owned tourist attractions rated A-level or above and 24 private scenic spots have implemented free admission for tourists holding ID cards from Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces as well as Shanghai. The promotion will last for the whole year.

"Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai have economic strength and developed tourism industries, and locals are willing to spend money on traveling. That's why Shanxi is targeting residents of these areas to pilot the free-admission policy," said Li Gui, deputy director of the Shanxi Department of Culture and Tourism.

Li added that Shanxi hopes to entice more tourists from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai to visit the province and enjoy its preferential tourism policies.
