Mass testing aims to halt pandemic's spread in Shanxi

Yuci district in Jinzhong city in central Shanxi province completed 296,540 COVID-19 nucleic acid tests as of 9 pm on Jan 14, and all results were negative, according to a press conference by local authorities.

The district started testing for all residents on Jan 13 to halt the pandemic's spread after two local asymptomatic cases were reported on Jan 11. The goal was to complete the testing within three days.

A total of 266 test sites were soon established in the district, with 7,939 staff members having collected 681,050 nucleic acid samples as of 9 pm on Jan 14.

The Health Commission of Shanxi province said no new asymptomatic infections, newly imported cases or confirmed cases were reported on Jan 14. Three asymptomatic patients and their close contacts are undergoing isolated medical observation.
