The National Development and Reform Commission recently approved the feasibility report for a high-speed railway project running from Xiongan New Area in Hebei province to Xinzhou city in North China's Shanxi province.

With a total investment of 57.24 billion yuan ($8.85 billion) from the two provinces, the project will be constructed by the China State Railway Group Co.

The 342-kilometer railway will have 12 stations along its route. It will start from Xiongan New Area, travel to Baoding city in Hebei province and end in Xinzhou city in northern Shanxi.

It is Shanxi's first high-speed railway project approved for a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

The railway route will be a vital channel for Shanxi to serve Xiongan New Area and integrate into the development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
