This year's Dragon Boat Festival holiday on June 25-27 saw over 6.28 million people to North China's Shanxi province to have fun and good times, according to the Shanxi Culture and Tourism Department.

The province generated tourism revenue of 2.11 billion yuan ($298.37 million) over the three-day holiday, which featured culture themed and rural travel routes and tourist events.

The Shanxi Culture and Tourism Department promoted 10 culture travel routes targeting visitors, such as those focusing on the Yellow River civilization, ancestor worship and the culture of the Shanxi merchants.

Various tourist attractions across the province explored local folklore about the Dragon Boat Festival and launched related themed experience events -- such as dragon boat races, dumpling making and throwing arrows into pots at a distance -- to make tourists further understand the traditional culture.

In addition, special rural tourism and suburban travel services highlighting rural sightseeing, vegetable and fruit picking -- as well as leisure activities -- were hot favorites among more visitors.
