Senior students of high schools in North China's Shanxi province went back to schools on March 25, as the spring semester in the province gradually resumed, according to the Shanxi Provincial Education Department.

"It's the first time that high schools in Shanxi province have adopted closed management for senior students, in accordance with current novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic," said Ren Yuezhong, deputy director of the Shanxi Provincial Education Department.

All 472 high schools in 11 cities across Shanxi province have been well prepared for the spring semester, officials said.

The schools have been strengthening their checkups of faculties and students, preparing epidemic prevention medical supplies, disinfections and sterilizations, as well as carrying out epidemic prevention education and strict dormitory and canteen management.

Over 99 percent of senior students of high schools in Shanxi will be able to return to school on time, according to statistics collected by the Shanxi Provincial Education Department on March 24.

Shanxi Provincial Education Department's Ren Yuezhong said that for some students who cannot return to school due to special circumstances, schools will continue with one-to-one online or phone communications.

These will track regular student school schedules and monitor their health conditions every day -- as well as transmit teaching content to them in real time, ensuring that their learning is not impeded.

For example, some schools have specially installed video equipment to provide synchronized classroom teaching content to students who are still at home.

As the spring semester begins, schools in Shanxi province will focus on prevention of the epidemic and teaching to make sure senior students are well prepared for the coming national college entrance examinations, Ren added.
