Shanxi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine recently got the green light from local medical authorities for five TCM preparations it has created to be used in the treatment of the novel coronavirus, hospital officials said.

The approval was granted by the Shanxi Medical Products Administration and Shanxi Health Commission, according to a news conference held at the hospital on Feb 18.

Following the outbreak, the hospital immediately organized a team of 84 experts in the relevant fields across Shanxi province to complete TCM preparations for preventing and treating the infection.

The five preparations are differentiated according to the regional climate and disease development characteristics of Shanxi -- and specific situations of patients -- based on the national treatment plan, regulating patients' immune systems and allowing patients to eliminate the virus in the body through their own immune system.

Officials said the green light will improve prevention and control of the coronavirus pneumonia in Shanxi, as all designated hospitals for treating the infections can now dispense and use the five preparations.

Currently, Shanxi is one of the first five provinces winning approval for making TCM preparations for preventing and treating the coronavirus pneumonia.
