Shanxi province's other interprovincial high-speed line -- the Taiyuan-Jiaozuo High-speed Railway -- is expected to go into operation on Dec 16, 2020, according to local rail officials.

A key transport infrastructure project of the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-15) for Shanxi and Henan provinces, officials said the Taiyuan-Jiaozuo High-speed Railway is an important part of Zhengzhou-Taiyuan Railway.

It extends around 360 kilometers and has a maximum design speed of 250 km per hour.

The high-speed line has 13 stations and runs from Taiyuan South Railway Station in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province in the north, via Jinzhong, Changzhi and Jincheng cities in Shanxi province and ends at Jiaozuo Railway Station in Jiaozuo city in Henan province in the south.

Once the rail is completed, the travel time between Taiyuan and Zhengzhou will be shortened to less than two hours from the current time of over four hours.

Officials said Changzhi and Jincheng will thereby have the first high-speed railway running through the cities.
