North China's Shanxi province held a promotions conference on China (Shanxi)-New Zealand economic and trade investment and cooperation in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand, on Dec 9.

Representatives of the New Zealand-China Business and Trade Association, government departments and institutions in Auckland, business groups and overseas Chinese and Chinese businesspeople, attended the event.

Xiao Yewen, deputy consul general of the Chinese Consulate General in Auckland, told the conference that Shanxi -- with its deep cultural heritage and rich natural resources -- has unique things to offer.

He said it had advantages in the rail transit, mining equipment, agriculture and animal husbandry industries and that, on the other side of the coin, New Zealand was at the forefront internationally such areas such as technological innovation, environmental protection, ecological agriculture and animal husbandry.

Xiao urged the Shanxi economic and trade delegation to make full use of the opportunity brought about by the event to carry out further communications and business matchmaking with New Zealand business circles -- and to help Shanxi's industries and specialties enter the New Zealand market.

The two sides made presentations on their own featured industries, projects, new technologies and special products at the event.

THE promotion was a part of the 2019 Shanxi Brands Silk Road Tour, an annual brand promotion event launched by the Shanxi Provincial Government.

"We hope to conduct cooperation with New Zealand in agriculture, animal husbandry, food, agricultural machinery and the trade sectors through the Shanxi Brands Silk Road Tour and advance win-win development," said Chen Hecai, chairman of the Shanxi branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

After the event, Shanxi Fenjiu Group signed a memorandum of cooperation with We Love Group in New Zealand to establish partnerships in liquor brands such as Fenjiu liquor.

Shanxi Weaver Smart Science and Technology Co and New Zealand Silver Fern Consulting Ltd signed a strategic cooperation agreement to develop commerce, an airport and public parking lots.

There was also an agreement to establish a New Zealand city-level static traffic big data platform which aims to optimize local parking resources, improve local parking management and build a smart transportation city.

More business matchmaking meetings between Shanxi and New Zealand were held after the promotions conference covering such fields as agriculture, animal husbandry, equipment manufacturing, energy and water conservancy investment, tourism and legal services.
