Yangquan city in Shanxi province held an energy revolution summit on Nov 19, according to the organizers.

They said that among those attending were academicians and experts from universities and research institutes and representatives of international organizations.

Others included prominent businesspeople, including Chen Qingquan, an electric vehicle expert with the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the representative of Korean Resources Corporation Beijing office.

The Chen Qingquan Science and Technology Innovation Center, which is the third one founded by Chen in China, was established during the forum.

Relying on a team of world-class scientists -- led by Chen Qingquan and a large number of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering -- the center will carry out research and development according to the city's industrial status quo and promote hydrogen energy technology development and commercialization for local e-vehicles.

Mayor Lei Jiankun said the city's government would provide a full range of services for the center.

This would help develop it into a scientific and technological innovation platform, an enterprise incubator and an industry investment platform for Yangquan's energy revolution and industrial transformation, she said.

An industrial cooperation and project matchmaking conference during the forum also saw six energy-related projects signed on the spot.

These included projects involving new energy vehicles replacement and charging station installations, energy-saving technology testing services and hydrogen energy utilization in mining areas.

Officials said that Yangquan, as a typical resources-based city, faces a major challenge in terms of its high-quality transformation and development.

In recent years, it has promoted the next generation of information technology, new energy, new materials, intelligent equipment manufacturing, modern coal chemical industry and modern logistics industries.

It has also upgraded its traditional coal industry so as to reduce overdependence on natural resources.
