Taiyuan Boiler Group obtained a certificate of scientific and technological achievements for its technology in high steam parameter biomass circulating fluidized bed boilers, according to officials.

The appraisal committee of the China Machinery Industry Federation said that the company's technique  had reached the international leading level in its field.

It said it had made a breakthrough in the technical field, ensuring the safe and economical operation of the equipment and promoting the technological upgrading of biomass fluidized bed boilers.

Biomass resources mainly include agricultural waste, forestry waste, municipal solid waste, organic wastewater and waste residue.

Experts say biomass heating is flexible, stable and environmentally friendly.

It is estimated that 1 ton of biomass is equivalent to the calorific value produced by 1 ton of standard coal, which can reduce 935 kilograms of carbon dioxide, about 1.5 kg of sulfur dioxide and about 1.77 kg of nitrogen oxides.

Together with Tsinghua University, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and the China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute, Taiyuan Boiler Group completed the technology.

It did so by overcoming the problems of fouling and corrosion of high temperature heating surfaces of high steam parameter biomass circulating fluidized bed boilers.

The new boiler has high availability, high power generation efficiency and low nitrogen oxide emissions, properties which have won around 30 orders worth over 500 million yuan ($70.4 million) for the company in 2019.

In addition, the product has won recognition beyond Shanxi province and has been sold to Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.

Officials said that over the past 20 years, the company has made a number of leading technological achievements and brought China's circulating fluidized bed boiler technology to the forefront of the world with the help of the Tsinghua University research team.

They said that at present, the company is committed to the research and development of a fourth generation of circulating fluidized bed boiler products.
