Datong city in Shanxi province launched a charter flight service to Bangkok, Thailand, on May 23, according to a statement released by Datong Yungang Airport.

Operated by Shanxi Baohua International Travel Service Agency and Vietnamese VietJet Air, the Datong-Bangkok air service uses a Boeing 737 and is scheduled to fly each Thursday until Oct 26.

Flight VZ3603 takes off from Datong Yungang Airport at 23:00, arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok at 02:45 local time. Return flight VZ3602 departs at 16:15 local time from Bangkok and arrives in Datong at 22:00 Beijing time.

Thailand, especially its capital Bangkok, has been the top destination for most people in Shanxi province due to its cheap cost, around 3,000 yuan ($433) per person on average, which is even cheaper than some domestic tourist hotspots.

This year's Datong-Bangkok charter flight service will offer more products and tour routes to tourists, based on previous experience in operating charter flights to Thailand, according to Shanxi Baohua International Travel Service Agency.

Visitors can purchase tickets for the charter flight service from major travel agencies across Shanxi province.

The round-trip ticket price starts at 2,300 yuan (including fuel surcharge and round-trip airport tax).
