Linfen city in northwest Shanxi province recently put its first base station for the 5G network into operation, according to local officials.

The base station was installed near the World Stadium in the city, which will host the clay pigeon shooting, figure skating and karate events of the second Youth Games of China, to open in Shanxi province in August.

Officials said Linfen will now move on to offer 5G network coverage in local major tourist attractions, commercial districts and blocks, research institutes, universities and colleges.

Once the areas are covered with the 5G network, users can experience data speeds up to 100 times faster than currently available levels, allowing them to watch high-definition virtual reality live broadcast of second Youth Games of China.
