A voluntary tree planting event was launched by Shanxi province in Beishan Mountain in Yangqu county, in the provincial capital of Taiyuan city, on March 12, to promote afforestation and environmental protection.

Over 500 participants from companies, schools, forestry government departments took part in the event, planting more than 1,300 trees including Chinese flowering crabapple and Chinese pine.

A donation of some 600,000 yuan ($89,427) by 11 companies was also made at the voluntary tree planting event.
