Small grapes make big deals

Residents pick grapes in Wangwu village, Xiaodian district, Taiyuan, Shanxi province, on Aug 5. The district introduced a new type of grape developed by Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2010 to help local residents increase their income. The new type of grape which tastes great matures in May, much earlier than common grapes, and thus brings in great economic benefits. [Photo/Xinhua]

Wangwu village plants new type of grapes developed by Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences in greenhouses covering about 67 hectares. Each mu (666.67 square meters) of grapes can generate 15,000 yuan ($2,248.04) in earnings. The village also developed agritourism based on the grape planting. [Photo/Xinhua]
